St. George's Tron Church of Scotland. Fun fact: During Apartheid the Embassy of South Africa used to be located here when it was called St. George's Place, so in 1986 Glasgow's Lord Provost renamed the street to force the ambassador to give his address as No.1 Nelson Mandela Place. Glasgow activists had campaigned against Apartheid since the 1960ies and Mandela was awarded the Freedom of the city in 1981 whilst incarcerated on Robben Island. |
